Teletubbies Relaunch
Taking Teletubbies to the world
When the Teletubbies made their comeback on a major global streaming platform, the team behind the brand wanted to make a big international splash.
For the relaunch, we were asked to bring Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po to life at World Expo in Milan – taking four of the world’s most recognisable characters on a tour of the globe, quite literally.
Four Teletubbies. One very big event.
There was just one small detail.
The performers needed to be a very specific height.
Our casting team set to work finding the right people to fit the suits – because when you’re bringing the Teletubbies to life, being able to reach the right height is rather important.
Once assembled, the colourful foursome headed to Milan, where they toured national pavilions, meeting families, visitors and delegates from around the world.
And the response?
Pure Teletubbies joy.
Wherever they went, crowds gathered, cameras came out and people of all ages couldn’t resist getting involved. It was a brilliant reminder that some characters really do transcend generations and cultures.
One minute. One Teletubby. A lot of hugs.
Then came the publicity stunt.
Po was set to attempt a world record for the most hugs in a minute. It sounded simple enough.
It wasn’t.
The attempt had to be paused when the sheer excitement of the children proved too much. Rather than politely queuing for their turn, they launched themselves at Po with an enthusiasm that only children – and perhaps Teletubbies – can truly muster.
Record attempt aside, it was a pretty definitive demonstration of just how much love there still is for these characters.
A big moment for a much-loved brand
The activation gave the Teletubbies relaunch a joyful, highly visual presence on the international stage, creating memorable moments for families and plenty of content for media and social channels.
Most importantly, it reminded everyone why these characters have remained so loved for so long.
We were delighted to provide the performers who helped bring the Teletubbies back to life – and to be part of such a brilliantly bonkers global brand moment.
Four iconic characters.
One global stage.
And quite a lot of hugs.
I think “One minute. One Teletubby. A lot of hugs.” gives this one its own personality, while the overall structure still sits comfortably alongside the Spell Slinger and LIBF case studies.
