Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy

Last updated: [2026]

Our commitment

At Adhoc Actors, we believe that everyone should be treated fairly, with respect and without discrimination.

We work with a diverse network of professional actors, creatives, clients and partners, and we believe that different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives make the work we create stronger and more interesting.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people feel valued, respected and able to be themselves.

Equality

We are committed to providing equal opportunities to everyone we work with, regardless of:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender or gender reassignment
  • Marriage or civil partnership
  • Pregnancy or maternity
  • Race, ethnicity or nationality
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex or sexual orientation

We will not tolerate unfair discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation on any of these grounds.

We also recognise that people can experience barriers or disadvantage for reasons beyond the characteristics protected by law, and we aim to take a fair and considerate approach to everyone we work with.

Diversity

Our work depends on people. From actors and performers to clients, creative partners and audiences, we value the different perspectives and experiences that people bring.

When casting performers, we aim to select people based on the requirements of the role and the needs of the project. We will not make assumptions about someone’s suitability based on stereotypes or irrelevant personal characteristics.

Where a particular characteristic, background, age, accent, lived experience or other quality is genuinely relevant to a role or project, we will make this clear as part of the casting process.

We believe good casting is about finding the right person for the role — while ensuring that opportunities are open and fair.

Inclusion

We want everyone we work with to feel welcome and included.

We will make reasonable efforts to understand and accommodate individual needs where possible, including accessibility requirements relating to auditions, rehearsals, performances, training sessions, events and other aspects of our work.

We encourage open communication. If someone needs additional support or an adjustment to enable them to participate fully, we will do our best to find a practical solution.

Our approach to casting

As a business working with professional actors, casting is central to what we do.

We aim to:

  • Give performers fair and equal consideration for suitable roles.
  • Base casting decisions on the requirements of the role and project.
  • Avoid unnecessary or discriminatory requirements in casting briefs.
  • Challenge stereotypes where appropriate and encourage a broad range of performers.
  • Be clear about any specific characteristics or lived experience that are genuinely relevant to a role.
  • Treat performers professionally and respectfully throughout the casting and booking process.

We recognise that some projects may require specific characteristics, experiences or representation for creative, educational or authenticity reasons. Where this is the case, we will ensure that requirements are relevant to the project rather than based on assumptions or stereotypes.

Working with clients and partners

We expect the organisations, clients and partners we work with to share our commitment to respectful and inclusive working practices.

We will not knowingly support work that involves discriminatory, degrading or offensive treatment of performers or participants.

Where concerns arise, we will seek to address them constructively and, where necessary, may reconsider our involvement in a project.

Creating inclusive experiences

Many of the experiences we create involve interaction between performers and audiences.

We aim to ensure that our work is welcoming and appropriate for the people taking part. Where relevant, we will consider accessibility, audience needs, cultural sensitivities and the nature of the interaction when developing a project.

We also recognise that humour, characterisation and improvisation need to be handled thoughtfully. Being entertaining should never come at the expense of someone’s dignity or wellbeing.

Responsibility

As a small creative business, we believe equality, diversity and inclusion should be part of how we work every day rather than simply something that sits within a policy.

Everyone working on behalf of Adhoc is expected to treat colleagues, performers, clients, participants and members of the public with respect.

We will review this policy periodically to ensure it continues to reflect our values, our work and our legal responsibilities.

Raising a concern

If you have a concern about equality, discrimination, harassment or inclusion in relation to our work, we encourage you to raise it with us as soon as possible.

All concerns will be treated seriously and handled sensitively.

We will aim to listen, understand the issue and take appropriate action.

Our commitment

We believe that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, respected for who they are and given the opportunity to take part.

That’s the standard we aim to bring to every project, every performance and every relationship.
